PROPOSED EVENTS FOR 1940s WWII WEEKEND 2008

The week before the Event

Greenford School will have activities throughout the school week for children

Friday 20th June 2008 - The Fabulous 40s

Sing along and dance at MN Village Hall
(Tickets sold separately £5.00. Licensed Bar)
to include:
Live entertainment by Dickie and Debbie Lines plus The Rhythm Rascals
Right of Admission Reserved

Saturday 21st June 2008 - Day 1

Day to commence with air raid siren at 10:00 with the official opening at Greenford School
Various displays of 1940s themed activities to include:
Military vehicles and equipment
Radio controlled tanks, planes and ships
Trade Stalls and Exhibitors
Catering vans
Firefighting equipment
Memories project display at Greenford School
1940s period style room
Radio play and wartime sing along
WWII battle re-enactments
Various small re-enactor activities UXB etc.
Infantry Drills and Displays
American Troops Playing Baseball
Live entertainment by Dickie and Debbie Lines
Archaeological dig of a ‘Spiggot Mortar’ site in ‘Skips Field’ plus the restoration of one of the ‘Pill Boxes’
Victory street party
Local businesses encouraged to participate (i.e. taped windows, advertising and dress code suitable to era)
The day will close with the sounding of the Air Raid siren

Saturday 21st June 2008 - Open air concert

In the evening we will be presenting an open air Glenn Miller tribute concert featuring AJ's Swing Band
with support from a Frank Sinatra tribute and The Stage Door Jonnies
(tickets sold separately at £10.00 each. Licensed Bar)

Sunday 22nd June 2008 - Day 2

Day to commence with air raid siren at 10:00
Service of Remembrance at the War Memorial
Various displays of 1940s themed activities to include:
Military vehicles and equipment
Radio controlled tanks, planes and ships
Trade Stalls and Exhibitors
Firefighting equipment
Memories project display at Greenford School
1940s period style room
Radio play and wartime sing along
WWII battle re-enactments
Various small re-enactor activities UXB etc

Throughout the weekend, both residents and visitors are encouraged to wear typical 1940/WWII fashion

We would like to encourage our visitors to join in the fun by dressing in period clothing or uniforms. Please do not wear German uniform or any Nazi paraphernalia as this may cause offence and you may not be permitted to enter the site. Do not bring weapons onto the site. Invited re-enactors representing many units and nationalities will be wearing their uniforms and carrying licensed weapons.
