LOCAL INFORMATION

The conjoined parishes of Maiden Newton and Frome Vauchurch make up a single community. Situated in the Frome Valley, the area resembles village life in the heart of rural England, West Dorset.

The map to the right of the page can be used to view the local and surrounding areas. The zoom in and zoom out tools shown by the magnifying glass symbols can be used to change the scale of the map. Select the tool and click once on the map. The tool shown by the hand symbol can be used to pan the map. Select the tool, click on the map and hold the mouse button down, drag the map in the desired direction then release the mouse button. Zoom in to read the labels.

The map shows the location of Maiden Newton at War with some details of the event layout. Also shown are a number of the WW2 defences around the village. Red diamonds are tank traps, red crosses are pill boxes and red dots indicate other types of defence. All of these can be investigated on site by following our Historic Trail.
