AJs Big Band AJs Big Band

The South West's Premier Big Band AJ's Big Band is the South West's premier 17-piece big band, specialising in the unforgettable music of the swing era. Under the inimitable leadership of Ken Parr, the band plays regularly throughout Devon and the South West for both dances and concerts. Since its inception in 1983 by the late Alan (A.J.) Hempstead, the band continues to sustain a high reputation, blending great ensemble work with exciting jazz solos. The band plays a wide range of music, from the 1930s through to more contemporary arrangements, but, of course, with the emphasis on classic tunes made famous by the likes of Glenn Miller and Count Basie. The shows also always feature a wealth of great songs including the timeless hits of stars such as Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald.

Ajs Big Band will be performing an open air concert on Saturday evening in the grounds of Greenford School

The Wesses Highlanders The Pipes and Drums of the Wessex Highlanders

We are pleased to announce that the Pipes and Drums of the Wessex HIghlanders will be performing throughout the weekend.

The Wessex Pipe Band formed in September 2001. Since that time they have increased their membership, with not only new pipers and drummers, but with experienced musicians who have migrated to their group because of their relaxed and friendly attitude. The band exists for its members and their principal aim is to have fun and entertain. They like nothing better than to share their hobby with others, and that means sharing their music!

They meet once a week on Tuesday Evenings for practice and at various other times during the year when performing. They wear the Kilt and Argyll Jacket, together with the Glengarry hat, dressed with a red feather Hackle. Their members wear the tartan of their choice.
