WE NEED YOU!
It is hoped that as well as being a great public attraction this event will also re-kindle the community spirit that prevailed during the war years. Any help, ideas or donations towards the big event would be greatly appreciated. Please
contact any Committee member for details.
Maybe you’re wondering…HOW CAN I HELP?

Dig For Victory
It is hoped that part of the
Maiden Newton at War weekend, will be a 'DIG FOR VICTORY' area at the village allotments and it would be great if as many allotment holders could participate as possible by simply opening up your allotments to visitors.
Also if any residents would like to open their garden in response to the 'DIG FOR VICTORY' event please contact John at Amber Hardware.
This will not only give children the opportunity to learn how hard it was in times of war, but also to learn about the pride and satisfaction of growing your own fruit and vegetables. It would also give the adults a chance to maybe learn a thing or two too.
If you are interested in opening your allotment or garden for this event, please complete a
Dig for Victory form and forward it to John at Amber Hardware.
Make Do & Mend
We are asking people to donate clothing dating back to the Second World War for a fashion show. In particular, we are looking for:
Male and female civilian clothing - daywear and evening wear
Utility clothing and shoes
Male and female armed forces uniforms
Clothes made from parachute silk
Children's clothing
Women's Land Army uniforms
Accessories including shoes, hats and handbags.
Underwear and swimwear
Gas masks
Newspapers and other paper artifacts
Everyday household items from the 1930s/40s
The suits, dresses and uniforms will be modelled at a 1940s fashion show - one of many activities taking place as part of the
Maiden Newton at War weekend in June, 2008.
Please hand any item for donation in at Amber Hardware
The Memories Project
Recently it was suggested that a project should be begun to collect the memories of people who have lived through the war. Not just the dramatic events which are usually recorded, but also the everyday memories.
If you lived through the war years please leave your memories on the form provided or send an e-mail to the address below. If you were born after the war and know someone who would like to share their stories, please ask them to fill out the attached form and add their tale to the collection so that it can be recorded for future generations.
It is important as time marches on to gather memories before the generations who live through the war pass away and their memories are lost forever.
This project will publish some memories, and photographs on a display in Greenford School, at the WWII weekend which will take place on 21st and 22nd June 2008.
Memories of all types can be added, no matter if you were at home during the war, posted abroad with one of the services, helped in the home guard, were evacuated or in a reserved occupation. The list is endless. No matter how small please add your memories to the collection and help preserve the wartime spirit forever, in the hope that it will never happen again.
Any photographs depicting wartimes would also be most gratefully appreciated and of course will all be returned (if address supplied).
When you have completed your
Memories Project form please forward it to John at Amber Hardware (Maiden Newton).
Memories and recollections can also be mailed to:
Mr John Mear, Amber Hardware, Dorchester Road, Maiden Newton, Dorchester,
Dorset, DT2 0BD
Or Emailed to:
angela@dunkley0.orangehome.co.uk
If you would prefer to record your memories on audio tape please do so and forward it as mentioned above. If you include your address we will return your tape to you.
