“…….Transmission… Magic City 2008…. They have travelled many nights, across 4 continents, and 10 time zones, introducing you to the pioneers of 2008 european hard trance… Jon the Baptist & DJ Chuck-E……”
Hello people and welcome to our Magic City tour feature! In June we traveled from Heathrow near London to Sydney, Australia as part of Transmissions ‘International Line up’. We took part in the ‘Magic City Tour’ alongside Technoboy (Italy) Kamui (Germany) Noise Controllers (Holland) Bas & Ram (Holland) The Pitcher (Holland) Joop (Holland) DJ D (Italy) & Oli G (United States). All the DJ’s were spread over 3 events in Melbourne, Brisbane and the main arena spectacular in Sydney! We had an amazing time meeting and partying with every body, and met lots of new friends, it was something we will always remember. Good times!!
Arrival
God knows how, but on the 1st night of arriving there was no need for straight jackets. Despite the grueling flights we were still just about sane - only a little messed up from the strong ass travel pills (Am I really ‘yeeer?!), free beer and wine from the long haul flight!! Airplane food though... well, it makes you… umm… Have you ever been to do a ‘number 2’ having only eaten air line food? Well you know what we mean! Wrong! Any how, we decided to go out and meet the others but were pretty knackered so not quite as full of hardcore banter as usual. A few beers later and onto some club called Family to see Steve Hill. United states rude boy Oli G was denied entry to the club because his image was too 'skate’, and not enough ‘street’. Wha!
We decided to leave after an hour because we were ready for our beds, yet that didn’t happen - Jet Lag is HELL!! As we didn’t want to seem like party poopers (the boys would soon find out we were the complete opposite) we decided to ‘break the Ice’ by sending a text to the Noise Controllers and the Pitcher of Chuck-E, naked in bed, saying 'lonely 2nite?, there’s room for 2 more in room 216’! - See the pic!!
During the whole tour we had 7 flights, 4 hotels a beach house & seriously, about 7 hours kip! Mental times!!
Brisbane
The Brisbane gig as pretty cool. It was good to see all our new friends ‘do their thing’. Ive got stories of this event, but im not sure what’s true and what’s not as we were both absolutely smashed to pieces.
It brillaint to meet lots of like minded Hard Trancers at this event who had brought some of our tunes to sign. Its good to find out what people in different countries think of our stuff and what there fav's are! A couple of them also said they were doing ALL 3 Magic City events, and we caught up with 1 crew in Sydney on the last tour stop!
The Zoo and The Beach
During the week between the weekend’s gigs, we stayed in an awesome 4 bedroom deluxe beach house @ Byron Bay. It was a beautiful place, with lovely beaches and we didn’t want to leave! The size of the spiders we spotted were closer to a dog, but other than that we loved the place!
Steve Irwins ‘Crikey zoo’, or ‘Crik-E’ if you’re the Pitcher, was well cool. We saw the staff there put on a ‘Live Crocodile Show’ and saw some massive snakes (…”Im used to that tho” ;o) Chuck-E..)
Melbourne
We arrived in Melbourne on the Wednesday, dumped our bags at the hotel and went out for dinner then a ride in a glass elevator, inside a huge building. We met our friend Amanda who thought it would be funny to send the lift plummeting in to the basement and watch us all create solids in our pants as we thought we weren’t gonna stop!
Thursday we went to visit Dr Willis, and he had an awesome Star Wars collection! See the pic!
The pic far right - (Left 2 Right) Chuck-E, JTB, Bas, The Pitcher, Arjan (Noisecontrollers), Ram. This was taken outside a theme park before we went out on the pop (again)
The Melbourne event was on the Friday and was larger than the Brisbane stop. Jon got in a dirty stinkin’ howling mess, and pictured below is the morning after. (Check the bags on chuck-E) Note, this was the morning of, and the build up too one of the biggest gig we have played…
“We got back from the venue in Melbourne about 5am, 8.45am I have a nock on my door, I open it and Jon is standing there like he’s been raped with a wire brush, he decides to spew about 6 times in my toilet, then get in my bed with his coat and shoes on and pass out” “I went for breakfast, came back, and he’s still there, lol, its well funny now, but at the time I tough he was going home in a body bag. 2 days before this his suitcase broke and the wheels cut a big gash in his leg, and we had to go the Hospital drunk as hell for him 2 get stictches”..Chuck-E
Sydney
Sydneys event was one of the best gigs we have ever done. We had the peak time slot - 2-3am and couldn’t wait to hit the decks and play to the 7000 main room capacity crowd! After the signing session where we met loads of right of it clubbers, we went back to the hotel to finish a few last minute edits, then went back too party!
The set went down amazingly well and Simon the promoter told us it was one of the best sets of the night, that he loved it and will be getting us back in the near future! The amount of people who told us they loved the set and weren’t expecting ‘Hard Trance to sound like that’ was really humbling! It seems that proper European hard Trance had gone missing from there beautiful country and they were more than glad to have it back. We had goose pimples right the way through the set and when Technoboy came to start his set we didn’t want to come off!
Enjoy the video on the left and download the live set:
We Apologise for the less than perfect sound quality. The recording level seems to of been turned up at random points during the set, which was totally out of our control...we hope it doesn't spoil your listening pleasure ;)
The End
The last night we went for a Mexican meal which was well nice, then said our goodbyes to some of the crew! We had a few pics, and went back to prepare for the shitty flights home!
During the day we visited the Sydney Opera House, 1 of our fav events of the tour! Awesome building and it was amazing to see if for real and get some pics in.
Thanx
Special Thanx go’s to Simon, Annie, Brendan, Amanda, Rica, Alicia, Riah, Erix, Technoboy, Bas & Ram, Bas & Arjen (Noise Controllers) Patrick & Dom (Kamui) Luke (The Pitcher) For making the tour such a great memory! The biggest Thanx go’s 2 all the Ravers & Clubberz who love European Hard Trance!! May the force be with you always!
